Where Design Meets Manufacturing: Biesse Design Lab
Biesse, a global game changer in processing technologies for wood, glass, stone, metal, and materia, is launching its new project Biesse Design Lab, in Türkiye bringing together the worlds of design and manufacturing technologies.
Founded in Italy in 1969 and now operating on a global scale in the field of multi-material processing technologies, Biesse Turkey, aims to connect the creative ideas of young designers with advanced manufacturing technologies through this new initiative.
Universities, industry, and the design world come together on one platform
Set to launch as a pilot program in 2026, Biesse Design Lab aims to create a new collaboration platform between universities, industry, and the design world.
As part of the pilot project, selected students from Industrial Design and other product-oriented design programs at universities in Istanbul will develop and produce original designs by combining at least two of the following materials: wood, glass, stone, metal, and advanced engineered materials.
Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to enhance their projects and experience the production process through inspiring talks, workshops, and mentorship from industry professionals.
The projects, brought to life through Biesse technologies, will be exhibited at the end of the program. Following the jury evaluation, the creator of the best design will earn the opportunity to participate in a special design focused program in Italy.
The foundations of the project were laid through the intersection of the visions of Yelda Akıncı Bostan, Managing Director of Biesse Türkiye and the Middle East, and Esmer Erdem, Art and Design Project Manager.

The academic coordination of the project is being led by Karaca Erdem, Corporate Development and Strategy Consultant and Lecturer at Medipol University. Launched as a pilot initiative, Biesse Design Lab is envisioned to expand in the coming years through the involvement of different stakeholders and evolve into a design platform growing on an international scale.
