The future of glass, from innovation to sustainability
12/31/2024

Glass, a material with a history spanning thousands of years, remains at the heart of contemporary innovation

Maria Antonia Barucco, professor and coordinator of the IUAV Glass Cluster, explains how glass is facing key challenges such as social and environmental sustainability, and must adapt to the needs of modern society. “Glass,” she says, “must respond to these challenges, with profound reflections on the context in which it is used and the innovation to which it is subject.”

In our new video, Professor Elti Cattaruzza, Tenured Professor of Experimental Physics at the Ca' Foscari University, also emphasises the importance of synergy between the academic and industrial spheres. “It is essential,” he explains, “that the knowledge gained in universities is transferred to industry, in order to develop new technologies and applications.” This continuous dialogue between research and production enables glass to become an integral and innovative part of our daily lives.
